Unfriend 2020, Right Swipe 2021

The Year 2020, was no less than a roller-coaster ride. We had never imagined that an unprecedented attack by an invisible microscopic virus will change the way we live, breath and move.

In Indian culture, number 1 is reflective of new beginnings and symbolises the oneness of all existence . From our childhood we used to wait to receive our gifts from parents and relatives with a 'one rupee coin' in it. Well, apart from this being an old tradition, it never leaves an Indian without change jingling in their pockets. Now with the beginning of a new decade, we must all start afresh with a positive approach and let our lives jingle and swirl in the right direction.

1. May the ‘Ekees’ (21) ka shagun bring success, completion and fulfilment of desires in all our lives

2. Being at the threshold of a new decade, let us place a firm belief in the possibilities of a better and brighter future

3. Let our hope not wither away and we continue to make progress with a shine in our eyes and perseverance in our hearts

4. Let us capitalise on our opportunities and right the systematic wrongs of the past

5. It took an unprecedented pandemic to bring a pause to our individualistic lives, bringing us close to our kin and ending the isolationism we had forced ourselves to live into.

6. 2020 taught us to move away from the mechanical acts of life towards emotional and social ties

7. Let your dreams bloom and may your efforts and plans come to fruition

8. Search your ikigai- find the purpose that would push you to wake up with an ambition every morning

9. 2020 made us all creative in our own ways. Stagnation is boring, so let us constantly challenge ourselves to move.

10. 2020 was a year of internal discovery which helped us reinvent ourselves and let us try to hone new skills.

11. Pen down your thoughts- Pen is our best friend when there is nobody to hear us.

12. Accept the defeat, but never get tired- Coronovirus taught us the bitter truth that humans are not infallible. But, humanity keeps on fighting.

13. Pain is a powerful drive and when failures in life torment us, we should rise above all the challenges and fabricate our own path to success

14. 'New Normal' is now a buzzword. Maybe everyone needed this fresh start.

15. Lockdown unknowingly became a boon to nature. It made us revisit our roots and made us rethink about the effects of our actions on the environment.

16. 2020 was no less than the traffic control signal, cautioning towards a moment of pause to introspect our surroundings. It made us proceed with caution in the world bitterly hit by the virus and fuelling us with a regenerative enthusiasm to take a flight towards our goals.

17. Don’t say no to opportunities- We regret those unventured possibilities which swayed past us during the lockdown. Being spontaneous will help break the monotony of our lives.

18. Virtual media has made us cautious about ourselves. Validation by strangers online fills our void and loneliness. Instead, sharing our true self and thoughts can really liberate us. #Enjoying your own company

19. Trying out new things like Instagram filters, the upcoming year must contain new chapters. P.S. ‘We all enjoyed the experience of Dalgona Coffee’.

20. Instead of believing in grandma’s Nazar, try to have a positive social circle. As it is not the nazar but negativity around which pulls us back

21. Strike back - The year that just went by has been an year of resistance. Whether it is Greta Thunberg’s movement , #black lives matter, Indian farmers protest or fight the virus. We all know how important and valuable our identity on this planet is.

2020 was an intense duel of humankind with the deadly virus. The battle is far from over, however it has made us resilient and capable of weathering away grave adversities through behavioural transformation and firm belief in ourselves.

Let's hope that this new year marks the beginning of the end of the painful times we've faced as a civilisation and help us triumph over all our obstacles.
